I like to geek out while having real experiences. I maintain an extensive GPS database from my hikes, bikes, runs, and skis dating back to 2008. Feel free to follow the georss feed, explore the map above or download the GPS tracks below.

There's a little notch across the river that has always intrigued me. I had been feeling *really* unmotivated by any of the nearby trails, so I decided to finally try to bushwack up to it. Access was harder than expected because the FSR doesn't open until April 15. Oh well, I drove in on the road below and had some bonus climbing. The climb up was reasonably straightforward. There were a ton of use trails, probably from deer and elk, so I followed those up as much as possible and tried to stick to the either the pine forest or the meadows. As I got higher, the terrain got steeper, both above and toward the creek. Eventually I got to a blowdown area that was super steep and also had a giant rose patch which was awful. I worked around that, but eventually ran out of time and motivation. I managed to get above the spot where it looks "flat" from below and it definitely wasn't. Super steep and messy. I had a nice rest at the top and then turned around. On the way down, I stayed farther right and was mostly in mossy open areas, occasionally connected by some shrubby bushwacking. I think I found a piece of a plane on the way down! And at the very bottom there was a neat little traverse trail that I followed just for fun. Didn't make my objective, but still had a nice few hours out.
